Stress-free cooking using mise en place
The step-by-step recipe instructions in this blog emphasize the idea of mise en place. The literal translation of mis en place is "set in place." In cooking it means having all your ingredients measured, chopped, and otherwise prepared before you begin cooking. All required equipment should be gathered up, too.
It's important to have everything ready and laid out, because timing is often the difference between a successful dish and one that's not. Trying to multi-task between ingredient preparation and cooking is a recipe (pardon the pun) for cooking stress and even disaster.
I truly believe mis en place can turn cooking from a chore into a relaxing, enjoyable activity. Try it and see!

Hi! I found your blog via Pioneer Woman's blog. Congrats on your semi-finalist recipe, the Swiss Cheese Soup w/Carmelized Onions! It looks delicious. I looked at your entry about setting up a prep station & the mise en place. Thanks for sharing your expert advice! I'm going to start using these as part of my cooking process.
Happy Cooking! :)
